VISION CITY

VISION CITY is a spiritual center located on the 7th floor of a commercial building in central business district. Living in a megapolitan city like Jakarta - Indonesia is very critical for young generation to have strong community while being motivated to give positive impacts to the city. The purpose is to provide a center for young generation in the form of a place for praise & worship, musical performances, seminars and many other activities to express their needs.

The design positions symbolic meaning within a contemporary culture. City Towers as the symbol of a big city in the modern times as well as the symbol of a safe place in the ancient times, is the design theme of the project. Twelve Towers stand for twelve apostles, a symbolic meaning of discipleship, while Seven Towers at the stage symbolize completion and perfection.

Towers are arranged in a dynamic shape and composition as expressions of young people’s progressive characters. The angle configurations of slanted towers and ceiling are designed as sound reflections to be distributed evenly. A series of city lights tower creates a vision about city life. The play with lights and towers has a special place in this project with LED changing color to add dramatic effects.

Given the existing glass window along the space perimeter, towers and secondary acoustic walls are placed to absorb sound. Space inside the towers also function as sound room, multi media, equipment and storage room. The corridor separates main congregation and supporting facilities also functions as sound barrier.

Symbol of purity is expressed through white color schemes for towers, walls and ceilings. In contrast, several colored chairs are mixed as a symbol of welcoming the people’s diversity regardless of their background. Amid such bright and bold effects, feeling of joy and wonder pervade the interior. It is not a space that puts one entirely at ease, more in pleasant anticipation. It is a fine balance within a space where atmospheric lighting and monochromatic white tone create undeniably physical beauty.

The achievements of these modern interpretation of spiritual center design are that they enrich their contexts without overpowering; that as necessarily imposing forms, they offer ideas as large as their volumes to contemporary society.
