The Light Between Oceans

In this adaptive reuse project, the lighthouse has been transformed into a boutique hotel that harmoniously blends the rustic character of the original structure with a sleek, modern interior. The design preserves the lighthouse's historical essence while introducing a refined and modern contemporary sleek design elements.

The lighthouse's exterior showcases its original weathered stone facade, now complemented by the use of white Trani stone. This natural limestone, with its soft, creamy hues, adds a touch of elegance while still respecting the building's rustic charm. The Trani stone is carefully integrated to enhance the lighthouse's timeless appeal, creating a subtle contrast between the old and new. The rugged landscape surrounding the lighthouse is preserved, adding to the authenticity and providing a stark, yet complementary, backdrop to the contemporary design within. The interior design is characterized by clean lines and gentle curves, creating a serene and uncluttered space. The color palette is neutral, with shades of white, beige, and soft greys, allowing the natural light to play a central role in the ambiance. The use of materials like polished concrete, light wood, and glass enhances the simplicity and elegance of the space.

The hotel features two intimate bedrooms, each designed to offer a cozy yet luxurious experience. The bedrooms continue the sleek theme, with simple, elegant furnishings and soft textiles that create a restful atmosphere. The bathroom offers an open plan with curved glass tube for sink, separate shower and free-standing bath tub. This create a sleek modern look while providing luxurious feel. The other bathroom also designed with the same spirit and yet accessible to people with disabilities. Large windows in each room frame views of the surrounding landscape, allowing guests to wake up to the natural beauty of the coast. The design emphasizes comfort and tranquility, ensuring that each guest has a peaceful retreat within the hotel.

The rooftop garden is an Italian-inspired oasis that draws on the principles of Palladian architecture. At its heart is a graceful rotunda, which serves a both a focal point and a sheltered space for guests to gather. The garden respects the symmetry and classical proportions characteristic of Palladian design, creating a timeless and elegant outdoor space that offers a tranquil retreat where visitors can relax and take in panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Overall, this boutique hotel offers a unique experience that juxtaposes the old and the new, the rustic and the refined, creating a space that is both rooted in history and contemporary in its comforts.
